The Thrill and Fear of Heights

In searching for Places of Risk, one area I looked was in our (or my) fear of heights.  It's probably one of the most common fears people have, bringing on bouts of vertigo.  There is the risk of free falling, having a lack of control, and equipment failure (ledge gives way, lines snap).  What may drive many people to risk activities at great heights (bungy jumping, sky diving) is the thrill they may get taking themselves to the limit.  By challenging death, they feel more alive.
