Our very own Niagara Falls is source of figurative (Mother Nature) and literal power (hydroelectricity) that is also very dangerous and attracts tourists and thrill seekers from around the globe. It is thrilling to stand near the falls with nothing but a railing separating you from danger; foolishly stepping on the railing could result in an untimely demise.

There have been many instances of daredevils doing stunts at the falls (including a tightrope stunt most recently), many successful, others not so much. Why people would risk falling, drowning, injury and death stems from their desire to push their limits, to feel that powerful rush that takes them to the edge. There may also be an inherent fascination with water because it is such a necessary part of life: a waterfall amplifies the power of water.
